Rocket City and A Fish Song

We were driving home last night and passed the Space and Rocket Center. I told JC to look out her window to see the big rockets...

JC - "10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1....VLASTOFFFFF!!"

JC loves to listen to the radio and sing with me in the car. She LOVES Sugarland and Taylor Swift. I've even got her enjoying my favorite guy, Mr. Josh Turner. Usually I know what song she wants to hear. She calls Sugarland's songs (In order by which they play on the CD. The "Oooo Oooo song" "The Bingo song" "The Run song" "Joey song" and "The Gone Song"). She knows that Taylor sings the "High Heels song" and Josh sings "The Dance song". But the other day she asked me to play the "Vanilla Fish song". Vanilla Fish? What in the world is that? I kept asking her to sing it for me and she kept repeating "Vanilla Fish". I racked my brain but still couldn't figure out what she was talking about. I popped CD after CD in the player and skimmed through every song. "Nope, nope....nope not that one"....Poor JC was getting annoyed because I didn't know what song she was talking about. She told me that it came on the radio sometimes. Kendra was riding with us a couple days later and she asked her to play the "Vanilla Fish" song. Kenny had no idea what she was talking about either. Then yesterday JC and I were sitting in the car together while Andrew was inside the bookstore. We had the radio turned down and were talking. All of a sudden her eyes got really wide and she screamed "It's the Vanilla Fish song!!" "Turn it up Mom!!" I quickly reached for the volume knob and cranked it up. You won't believe what it was..........hahaha

5 Question Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are enjoying that beautiful sun as much as I am!

1. Are you a side, back or stomach sleeper? Stomach always! In fact I slept on my stomach until I was 8 months pregnant with both kids. I finally had to give up and choose another position because I couldn't breathe and thought I might be squashing the baby. That last month I didn't sleep at all. I couldn't wait until I had the babies and could go back to stomach sleeping. I had c-sections with both kids and slept on my stomach the very first nights after I had them. I remember the nurses saying "Hunny, you shouldn't be sleeping on your stomach for a while. You just had a c-section and your stomach is going to be sore." I didn't care! I had to get comfortable and get some sleep. I made sure I had lots of pillows and I slept great! (Well as great as you can with a newborn baby in the room needing to eat every hour or so!)

3. What are some job titles you have held in previous years? And which job did you enjoy the most?
Carmike 10 movie theater - My first job! I don't think I was there more than 6-8 months.
NASA Marshall Space Flight Center - Summer Intern for two summers (2000 and 2001)
Faulkner University - Receptionist, Co-Op program
Alabama State Employment Office - Summer Intern
BAE Systems - Human Resources Representative, 4 years
BAE Systems - Billing Administrator, 8 months. This was my last job before I left to stay home full time.
My favorite positions were working at the State Employment Office and my HR job with BAE Systems. I loved, loved those jobs!!!

4. What is the last thing that happened that made you laugh really hard? Last night JC came running into the living room and said "Mommy do you have something scary?" "I need something scary fast!" Me - "Why do you need something scary?" JC - "Because my hiccups just came!" How could you not laugh at that? She makes my days so much brighter!

5. Do you have any favorite sports teams? Baseball is my #1! I love the Boston Red Sox! I never watched baseball my entire life. It never interested me. That's when my Boston man Andrew came along and changed my mind. I started watching with him and now I am a true fan. I know this because I look forward to baseball season and watching the games as much as he does (and he has been a fan since birth). I even caught myself watching ESPN Classic the other night when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. Oh how I miss Bronson Arroyo!! What a happy day :) I remember watching alone in my bed while Andrew was away doing Radio City in New York. I wanted so badly to be with him watching.
My other favorite sports to watch are the Huntsville Havoc hockey team and of course Auburn football. War Eagle! (this is just for you Nat).

My Funny Valentine

I guess you can say that a good Valentines Day wasn't in the cards for Andrew. We had so much going on that day...church, Andrew preaching at Regency Retirement Home, errands to run, somehow fitting in naps for the kids, back to church, a youth devo event at Mastin Lake and a trip to Chuck-e-cheese later that night. Oh and did I mention that it snowed? Again! What is that now? Like 5 times this month. I am so sick of the snow and cold weather and coats and chapped cheeks and dry skin!! This list could go on and on.

Anyway, back to my story. We woke up at our usual church day time that morning...around 6:30. That gives us plenty of time to get up, get everyone dressed, fed and drive the 30 min or so to get to church. I was in the bathroom putting on "my face" as Andrew calls it :) and heard hear him say that the dry cleaners had forgotten to send back his pants with the rest of his suit. He was so annoyed that it took a lot for me not to laugh at him. He went on and on about how he had so much to do today and that he needed his whole suit. "Now what am I going to do?" "Candy are you sure you dropped off my whole suit? I bet you forgot!"

Excuse me! Me forget something that I promised him I would do? I knew I dropped off the 3 pieces he gave to me that morning. I remember passing it to the lady at the cleaners and how she called Andrew's shirt a blouse and I laughed out loud. I knew it couldn't still be in the car because I cleaned the car out that same morning and would have found it. I also knew it wasn't anywhere in the house because again I cleaned up that morning and would have found it. I told him not to worry. We would call the cleaners on Monday morning to retrieve the missing pants (which someone would probably hold up and think they were capris...haha). He was fuming by this point because now he had to find a new pair of pants and ....gasp!!....iron them. Andrew doesn't like to iron and usually suckers me into doing it for him. He pulled out the iron still muttering how I probably forgot to drop them off. He finished his pants and put on his shirt and tie. Then he reached for his jacket on the hanger and TADAAAAA!! There were the missing pants. Hanging on the hanger underneath his jacket! And may I add that the pants are always hung under the jacket when we pick them up from the cleaners. I guess I thought he had already checked....but nope. Not Andrew =) He looked at me all grinny and said "whoops!!" Famous words from Andrew. And yes, he did apologize for the accusation.

After all the suit hoopla we went to get the kids ready. I passed the window and saw the snow coming down. I honestly didn't even know it was suppose to snow again that morning. This put us into fast forward mode. We now needed to leave early to make the careful, slower drive to church. We finished with the kids and was outside loading them in within 15 min of seeing the snow. By this time there was already about 1/2 on the ground and the entire car was covered. Andrew turned on the wipers to remove the snow from the windshield and then for some strange reason he started to roll down his window. I looked over in time to see the snow sheet that was covering the window fall in onto Andrew's lap in one huge piece! I started dying laughing!! Andrew wasn't amused. His entire lap was covered in snow. I have no idea what made Andrew do that....sometimes he leaps before he looks =) He jumped out of the car and started dusting the snow off his khaki pants which were now all wet. I joked about how he looked like he wet himself. I got a laugh out of him and JC then asked "Does Daddy need to potty? And why is there snow in our car?" More laughs. He didn't have time to change so he turned the heat on to dry his pants. He still had to toss handfuls of snow out of the car and his hands by then were beet red.

Yep, it gets worse.

After church was over and Andrew's pants were all dry, we stopped at Sonic (or Sonicsssss as JC likes to call it) for some lunch before Andrew had to preach at Regency. Andrew is known to be somewhat messy when he eats. He's always getting food on his clothes or his face. I gently reminded him that he should get something easy to eat. Something that wouldn't drip or splash and ruin his clothes. He wouldn't have time to change before he had to preach. Of course Andrew had a hankering for a extra long coney dog with chili and cheese. And that's just what he got. I begged, pleaded even for him to get an order of chicken fingers instead. Nope. He wouldn't budge. The roller skating lady delivered our food. I was scared to look over as he started chowing away on the messy dog. I asked Andrew to spread out some napkins over his lap and shirt and to open the bag and use it as a plate in case the chili dripped. "I got this" was his reply. Everything was going smoothly. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw something drop! Andrew looked at me and he wasn't happy! A huge piece of chili, cheese dog dropped out of the bun, rolled down his tie, got on his shirt, belt and pants. I tried so hard not to laugh. But I lost it when I saw pieces of chili meat stuck to his belt and tie. HAHAHAHAHA!! Poor guy! Could his day get any worse? I think not! Andrew let out another "Whoops" and quickly put away the chili dog and started driving back home. He was going to have to change unless he wanted the share the chili with some friends at Regency.

Sometimes I think his life would be so much easier if he would just listen to me at times. Then I think how boring life would be if he did.

He did make in back just in time to preach. Wearing the black pants the I forgot to drop off at the cleaners.

And I'm home today. Treating his clothes with stain removal spray. And I wouldn't want to do it for any other man in the world.

5 Question Friday

What is something you use everyday? Toilet paper and my cell phone.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Possibly with Baby Lamica #3 added to our family, involved with my kids school/sports/church activities, maybe working full or part time, hopefully in Human Resources. Traveling with Andrew and the kids, helping Andrew with his Youth Ministry career, seeing Kendra HAPPY, MARRIED and with KIDS!! That's what I would love to see! And most of all just happy being me and happy to be where I am and with my family.

What are you most afraid of? My kids being kidnapped, someone in my family dying, having something happening to me medically where I can't take care of my family, driving off a bridge into water alone with my kids and not being able to get them both out of their car seats (this terrifies me!), being stranded in the ocean alone, being burnt in the face, having our house catch on fire, loosing all my pictures in a fire or tornado, ...I know some of these seem so bizarre and the chances of them happening would be slim to none, but they terrify me to think about!

What are you doing this weekend? I think we are staying home today which means I'll spend most of the day cleaning and spending time with the kids. Tomorrow we are going to dinner with our young families class from church to celebrate Valentines Day. We are going to "Top of the River" for some delicious catfish, fellowship and games :) Sunday we have church and then later that night we are taking the Youth Group to a area wide devo. After church I may take JC to chuck-e-cheese for a Tots-to-Tykes activity with Chase Park. I guess it really depends on if I have the energy to go! And guess who will not be going with me if I decide to go?....you guessed it! Mr. Silas will be spending the evening with his Poppy and Mimi. I will not go through that again! (There is a post about this adventure in my blog a few weeks ago).

Flashbacks of Being a Kid

Yesterday JaneClaire got her Polly Pocket dolls out and was playing with them behind the chair. I could hear her talking to them, telling them the names she had picked out for them, what they were going to wear and that they were going to Preschool.

I walked over to see what she was doing. She had their little shoes and clothes lined up on the windowsill and the babies on the floor. She saw me and asked "Mommy, can I have some of your tissue for my babies to cover up with. They need to take a nap." I said sure! She went and got some and carefully tore each piece and placed them over her babies. It was so cute. It reminded me of the good old days playing with my barbies. I used to fill Ziploc baggies with water and sneak some washcloths out of the bathroom. I pretended that these were their water beds. So cool! I remember my Dad getting annoyed when we had about 10 bags of water on the floor with barbies and washcloths everywhere. He thought we were wasting them. My Mom would laugh and remind him that the bags could be dried and reused. Haha! Thank heaven for Moms right? She would always calm my Dad down. If not for her, he probably would have had a heart attack with 2 crazy girls in the house. =)

I snapped these pictures of JC with my camera phone. She was so proud of these beds. I got them in time for a smile because about 5 min later she would be screaming and crying. Silas decided he needed to tear the 'covers' off and grab a baby to make JC mad! He knows just what to do to ruffle his sister's feathers. That sneaky little guy! =)

5 Question Friday

1. What was your first car? 1983 Black Camaro with T-Tops. It was so awesome! I thought I was the coolest girl driving around in that thing. I loved it because it always caught the young guys attention. You know how guys are with old cars. We (Kendra and I) drove that car into the ground. I am not joking! I remember that it had a terrible oil leak. We would buy oil every single weekend and get my dad to put it in so we could drive around town. It would be completely out of oil by Sunday. It even died on us a few times. The ones I can remember were in the Hollywood 18 (it was Hollywood 16 then) parking lot and at a stop light near the chick-fil-a on University. Some of my favorite teenage memories were spent in that car with my friends driving around Huntsville.

2. If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? Australia. I don't think I could handle the plane ride but if I could fall asleep and stay asleep the entire ride I would do it!

3. What was your favorite sitcom growing up? Full House, The Wonder Years and That 70's Show

4. What is your saddest memory? When my Paw-Paw and Aunt Dot passed away. I miss them so much. My Paw-Paw wanted me to marry a curly headed blond boy. I didn't marry a curly headed boy but I did birth a curly blond boy. He would adore Andrew and my kids. I just know it. He was the only Grandpa that I had. Both my parents dad's passed away before I was born. He was such a good man with a kind heart! And my Aunt Dot. She was hilarious! I have so many good memories with her. She wasn't even related to us but she was closer than any relative outside my immediate family. I can still hear her telling us the story about the monkey and bird or singing to us in Japanese. The 'coy, coy, coy' song still makes me laugh. She died before we found out that Silas was going to have dwarfism. She thought all along that he would be little. She would sit and play with his "Patty cake hands" while sitting in her hospital bed. I know that she would love to see him now, knowing that he was going to be little just like Shorty (my grandad). JaneClaire still remembers her playing 'trot little horsey' while sitting on her leg being bounced around. Good memories!

5. What did you want to be when you grew up? "A doctor who delivers babies" was always my answer. That is until I realized one day while Kendra was having her blood drawn that I cannot stomach the sight of blood. I get so sick and dizzy. Almost to the point of passing out. Blood is the most disgusting thing ever. One of my fears is the kids having a serious injury and I'm all alone at home with them. So far Andrew has always been here when they have a bleeding injury. I've been lucky! Ugh....just writing this makes me feel queasy. I am not kidding.

Community Helper Week at Preschool

This month at JaneClaire's Preschool different Community Helpers will be visiting and telling the kids about their role in the community. Yesterday was the first visit and it was from a local Police Officer. I picked JC up from preschool and was there to witness the police officer leaving and flashing his lights and siren.

I asked JaneClaire what the police officer told her. This is her version of what he said.

"Don't play with the phone. It could tie it up and someone might need it."
"If there is an emergency you should dial 111." (I have corrected her and she now knows to dial 911)
"Never get in a car with someone who has a dog. The dog is good but the person is not."
"When the police left he beeped his lights at us. It was so loud!"

Do you know how hard it is to keep a straight face while talking with her? Very. Especially when she opens those big blue eyes really wide and her itsy mouth moves so fast! I find it hilarious that she made the comment about the dog and person. I can almost guarantee that he was giving an example on how you should never get in a car with someone who is a stranger. Even if they offer to show you their cute little dog. I think her version was so much cuter =)
